WWI & WWII Memorial in Paris

WWI. 16 April 1916, the beginning of French troops being sent on an offensive attack to break the German lines. The result was a bloodbath and the loss of tens of thousands of soldiers, followed by mutiny and refusal to obey orders, which were sanctioned by executions…

The location of this event is the “Chemin des Dames”, the Ladies’ Path which had been named that way due to daughters of Louis XV taking that route to visit their governess…

What a contrast… Two royal young ladies walking in the country side and nearly two centuries later, a butchery…

The monument to the lost soldiers of WWI and WWII is located in the 15th District.
