Sainte-Eugène-Sainte-Cécile Church
My friends, here's another beautiful church in Paris! Hidden in the 9th arrondissement where most tourists do not go, you will find Sainte-Eugène-Sainte-Cécile.
Commissioned by Napoleon III in honour of his uncle Eugène de Beauharnais (son of Joséphine), the church was inaugurated in 1855. It was built in less than two years, and is the very first church in Paris of which the structure in solely made of steel. Very "avant-garde" for that time!
Once inside, you will be struck by the rich and colourful decor and on a sunny day, you will appreciate the stained glass. You will also notice the feeling of openness. That is due to the thinness of the wrought iron pillars replacing the usual stone columns, thus making the main nave and the two aisles forming a single space.
Enjoy!
