Place de la Sorbonne

The essence of Paris and the Latin Quarter is here on the beautiful Place de la Sorbonne. The Chapel of the Sorbonne University, a basin, a statue, and cafés all around. A place of quiet, right off the busy traffic of Boulevard Saint-Michel.

The Sorbonne University that is located behind the Chapel is the oldest university that was initiated by Robert de Sorbon in 1253. The Chapel is the oldest surviving part of it and we owe its contruction to Cardinal Richelieu.

The university was shut down during the Revolution. Napoleon re-opened it and started the rebuilding project that took decades. I took pictures at different seasons, some in the fall and some in the winter. Enjoy!
