





Nuremberg Trials - Nazi Germany
In 1945 and 1946 the Nuremberg trials took place. The most important members of the Nazi regime were being judged for their crimes against peace (violating international treaties) ; humanity (deportation, extermination and genocide) ; war crimes violating war laws ; and their planning to commit all those acts.
Why Nuremberg? The location had been decided in agreement by both the United States and the Soviet Union. It had to be in Germany but since the country had been bombed by Allied Armies, few places offered the following: an undamaged Court of Justice with a nearby prison that could acomodate high profile prisoners.
Historians still argue on the symbolism of Nuremberg: the Nazi race laws originated from there and it had been a recurring place for Nazi rallies during the rise of Hitler. If that really didn't weigh on the choice of location, it could not have been more appropriate...
