Malmaison Château - Napoleon’s gift to Josephine

This house was the gift of Napoleon to Josephine. Young General Bonaparte bought this country home a couple of years before rising to power. Josephine hired Percier and Fontaine, the two most well known and respected architects of that time and asked them to fix and enhance the house. Malmaison has Josephine written all over it.

I'm standing in Napoleon's office/library. Being a huge reader, he had thousands of books. On the painted ceiling, you can recognise antique authors and philosophers like Ossian, Ovid, Herodotus, Socrates, etc...

This place is quite overlooked, yet, it has a lot of charm, history and it is not far outside of Paris, so it is an easy half day trip. Highly recommended!
