Louis XV - Vice on a Horse!

On 5th February 1770, a graffiti was found on the Louis XV’ statue pedestal in Paris. The graffiti read: “Vice on a horse”! By then, Madame Du Barry, the latest “favourite” of the King had started making quite a name for herself. And of course, she was not the first lady who “pleased” her beloved King…

Madame de Pompadour, the previous long running favourite, had also gone beyond the extra mile to receive favours from Louis XV. La Pompadour had actually set up the infamous “Parc aux Cerfs”! The name ”deer park” refers to the part of town in Versailles where the King would go hunting...

Within these hunting grounds was found a house destined to accommodate a series of young ladies who “entertained” the King! Historians believe that Marie-Louise O’Murphy who posed for François Boucher - wearing only her perfume - had sojourned in the “Parc aux Cerfs”…

Now you understand why the King enjoyed “hunting” so much…
