Francois-Xavier Church in Paris

Francois-Xavier church in Paris is a very interesting church. First because of its architecture dating back to the second half of the 1800’s. Steel was used for the structural elements, and though it was hidden by stone walls, it allowed for more spacious interior and more space for windows, therefore more light.

Secondly, the church honours Francois-Xavier who went as far as India and Japan to spread the good word. So the painting above the altar is different from usual representations of Christ. It shows Francois-Xavier presenting to Christ the people he has converted in these two counties, they are wearing their local traditional clothing. You don’t see that very often in Catholic churches…

I could go on with the many treasures of the parish, such as “the Last Supper” by Tintoretto, simply magnificent… The church is located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, if you are in the area, check it out!
