Cesar - Centaur Statue in Paris
Do you like modern art?
Have you seen this statue in Paris and what do you think of it?
This is a work by French sculptor César Baldaccini, known as César. It represents a centaur, a Greek mythological creature, half man, half horse.
César was a friend of Picasso, and it is said the sculpture’s face is that of Picasso.
This work of art was made in 1985, the president back then was François Mitterand and his minister of culture Jack Lang were keen on bringing modern art throughout Paris (pyramid of the Louvre, the Buren columns in Palais-Royal, etc).
César was trying to express that machines had taken over the role of the horse in modern times. I wonder what he would think of the so-called artificial intelligence…
