The Carnavalet Museum is dedicated to the history of Paris. It has a great collection of paintings and artefacts related to the French Revolution, Napoleon, King Louis-Philippe and Napoleon III periods. The museum has been closed since 2016 for major renovations and will reopen most likely in the spring of 2021.

In the meantime, how would you like to have a sneak preview of the beautifully renovated interior courtyard and the statue of Louis XIV patiently awaiting visitors? Your favourite tour guide played paparazzi for you! Hush, hush…

The “Hôtel Carnavalet” (private mansion) was built in 1548 and is one of the rare city mansions dating back to the Renaissance! On the last picture, see the bas-reliefs on the interior façade representing two of the four seasons, with the cancer and libra zodiac signs above them. These figures are some of the most refine bas-reliefs one can see in Paris. Enjoy!
